May 31st 2013 is World No Tobacco Day, and here at Vapourlites we'd like as many tobacco smokers as possible to leave their cigarettes behind them and make it the first day of the rest of their lives.
World No Tobacco Day is organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and unlike its more well known counterpart No Smoking Day, it isn't just aimed at stopping the public from smoking tobacco but its use in any form (including snuff, chewing tobacco etc).
The theme this year is to ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship worldwide. Something which Vapourlites fully supports – because we know that comprehensive bans on advertising tobacco are extremely effective in preventing people from taking up the habit in the first place.
Electronic cigarettes do not contain any tobacco but do provide the users with the same kind of nicotine hit as a regular tobacco cigarette. The e-cig achieves this by heating a solution containing water and nicotine, producing a vapour which is inhaled by the user. So there is no tar, no carbon monoxide and none of the other 4000 harmful chemicals contained in tobacco cigarettes.
The front page article in the Metro on April 12th stated that "electronic cigarettes have helped almost 9 out of 10 smokers quit tobacco". So, although not marketed as smoking cessation devices the public are using them as a way to wean themselves off tobacco in the same way that nicotine patches and gum have been used for years.
