What is Shortfill E-Liquid?

Shortfill e-liquids are larger bottles of vape juice that come without nicotine. They’re normally supplied in measurements ranging between 25ml, right up to 100ml – essentially, anything over 10ml may considered a shortfill.

These e-liquid bottles are called shortfills simply because they are not filled to the top of the bottle, and have some space for you to add your own unflavoured nicotine based e-liquid.

Once the Nicotine Shot is added, simply shake the bottle to dilute the two e-liquids together, and voila, you have a large bottle of e-liquid to vape that’s got nicotine in.

We’ve written up a full primer on shortfills here, but if you don’t want to read a full article, we’ll explain a little more here.

Why Do Shortfills Exist?

Shortfills exist simply because it’s a way of manufacturers getting round TPD laws in Europe. TPD laws state that you can only have a 10ml bottle of e-liquid with nicotine in. Shortfills circumvent this as you add your own – cheeky, eh!

Are Shortfills Good Quality?

As there’s no regulations governing shortfills – they don’t need to be tested like TPD E-Liquids, so generally speaking – there’s no real way of saying whether a shortfill is of good quality or not. At Vapour we feel it’s best to ensure that we’re supplying shortfills from manufacturers who’ve been around the block, whether that be Vampire Vape or Element – who we know have TPD certified e-liquids, so it stands to reason they hold themselves to a high standard of manufacture.

How Much Nicotine Should I Add?

Generally speaking, it depends how strong you’d like your e-liquid. The majority of shortfill users are either at 3 or 6mg, which means adding 1 bottle to a 50ml e-liquid will give you 3mg, adding two will give you 6mg. To save you having to work all of this out, we’ve got a handy calculator here.
